Pledge for the Next Chapter Cactus Cafe

Last Friday Friends of the Cactus Cafe along with Student Friends of the Cactus Cafe submitted a 25-page business plan to UT Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Juan González, who will decide the future of Cactus Cafe sometime this week. The plan meets all of the goals in the Guiding Concepts set forth by the UT administration. You can show your support for it by pledging to make a contribution in the future.

The proposal preserves the fundamental character of the Cactus by building on the self-operating model under which the venue currently operates, adding a number of exciting programs for students such as internships, performing artists-in-residence and free workshops with professionals in the music industry. It includes the best features of the so-called “KUT model” by involving both KUT and the Student Events Center in programming. You can read a copy of the plan, “Cactus Cafe: The Next Chapter”.

The plan also makes the Cactus self-sustaining, with an annual positive net income of over $38,000, and calls for financial support from the community through fund raising from private sources. It suggests that $64,000 can be raised through corporate and large individual donations and a benefit concert and that an additional $36,000 can be raised from smaller individual contributions.

Let’s get started on that now! Please show your support for the Cactus Cafe and make a pledge today. It will cost you nothing right now to do so, because your pledge will be contingent on the University committing to keeping the Cactus open in a manner that meets all of the Guiding Concepts for the future of the venue.
