Statesman blotter: Cactus Cafe comment time extended to May 7

In an online blotter article, the Austin American-Statesman reports that UT Austin VP for Student Affairs Juan González suffered a death in his family and so will not be able to attend Friday’s Texas Union board meeting. He has extended the deadline for comments on the Cactus Cafe by one week, to May 7.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. González and his family.

Closing the Cactus Cafe is a slap in the face to the community that has supported the university. The university does not exist as an island-it owes the community around it. Doing away with the Cactus and Informal Classes is saying you do not care about the community that surrounds you. Bad business, bad idea, bad decision.
