Where your gift goes

This effort of the Austin and university communities is to preserve the fundamental character of the Cactus Cafe in its current location in the Texas Union building with professional and experienced management as it now operates, and to promote educational and cultural opportunities for students through the Cactus Cafe.

Your gift will initially go toward helping fund Friends of the Cactus Cafe’s “Save the Cactus Cafe” campaign. It will cover our expenses in administration, organizing and getting the message out: things like letterhead, maintaining our web page, printing, perhaps even some advertising—the normal expenses associated with a campaign of this nature.

When, with your help, we win this campaign, any sums remaining or raised thereafter will go toward supporting the Cactus Cafe and programs that promote educational and cultural opportunities for students through the Cactus Cafe by helping fund things like internships, a student performing-artists-in-residence program, marketing projects with the business school and other similar educational and cultural programs.

Where your gift does not go

One requirement for IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt eligibility is that our board members receive no compensation for their work, and we operate under strict conflict of interest rules. In short, not only are we not in this to make money, but we’re not allowed to.
